Newly donated Blood Bike for Halifax and West Yorkshire.

West Yorkshire Volunteer Blood Bikers gathered in Halifax today to welcome into service a newly donated Blood Bike.

The specially equipped, BMW R1250 motorcycle, has been provided by Halifax based financial firm Investing For Tomorrow. Company Director, Toby Turner joined Company Chairman, Laurence Turner, himself a volunteer Blood Biker, to present the bike to the Whiteknights.

Toby said: “We’re delighted to provide Whiteknights with a new motorcycle to continue their remarkable ‘Out of hours’ voluntary service which benefits patients in West Yorkshire.”

Whiteknights West Yorkshire Manager, Matthew Butterfield added: “It’s excellent to have a new bike to urgently transport blood samples and medications around the Halifax area. The bike goes into service this weekend and we’re very grateful to be supported by a Halifax business in this way.”

Relay readiness at Whiteknights…

It’s been a very active daytime service for Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes Today.

Paul from Whiteknights South Yorkshire riding, “Ivanhoe” collected a Faecal Matter Transplant consignment from SSC Blood Bikes rider, Paul, and then handed over to Harry from Northumbria Blood Bikes at Scotch Corner.

Elsewhere in Yorkshire, Whiteknights North, Volunteer, Andy, transported a consignment of Breast Milk from the donor’s address to Hartshead Moor Services handing over to Pete from Blood Bikes Manchester.

Later that morning Andy then travelled to Calderdale Royal Hospital for another Neonatal Breast Milk delivery to Sheffield’s Jessops Maternity Hospital.

A huge thank you to all the volunteers in our neighbouring Blood Bike charities who worked to make these successful national relays happen. Go team BloodBikes!

Blood Bikers say thank you to Terberg DTS UK – fuel sponsor.

Friday 13th August 2021 is National Blood Bike Awareness Day.

Whiteknights’ Volunteer Advanced-Qualified riders will be wearing their Blood Bike jackets with pride as we join other independent Blood Bike Charities across the UK in celebrating the countless hours of volunteering to make urgent deliveries – free to the NHS – by volunteer motorcyclists.

There are now in excess of 3000 volunteer blood bikers in the UK who throughout the Pandemic have worked around the clock to respond to urgent call-outs to move Blood Samples, COVID-19 tests and other vital medical supplies and medications between hospitals and hospices.

For Whiteknights Yorkshire Blood Bikes, Blood Bike Awareness Day 2021, is the perfect opportunity to say an enormous thank you to one of the most significant supporting sponsors in our history.

Elland-based firm, Terberg DTS UK have been paying to fuel our fleet. That’s right. We’ve responded to more than 3000 urgent call-outs in the last year and Terberg DTS have paid for all the petrol – that’s covering more than 80,000 miles of travel across our entire fleet. Whiteknights say a heartfelt and sincere, “thank you!”, for making such a major contribution to the care of patients across Yorkshire and enabling us to do what we do.
